Please note that the 2019 ART Clinical Guideline and the PMTCT Guideline
have been updated and are available on the Knowledge Hub eLibrary

2019 Guideline for the Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of
Communicable Infections (

To align with the EML decision, the PMTCT guideline includes the update that
nevirapine (NVP) is no longer recommended as part of a triple-therapy ART
regimen, and specifically in pregnant women living with HIV. NVP will still
be used as a stat dose with TLD for women in labour but not yet on ART.

*	The CD4 count threshold for TPT eligibility in pregnancy has been
amended from 100 cells/μL to 350 cells/μL. This is aligned with EML and
PMTCT Guideline (changes to page 7).
*	All clients with a positive CrAg test should be referred for a
lumbar puncture. This is aligned with EML (changes to pages 4 and 6).
*	Removal of resistance testing for adults and adolescents failing a
first-line DTG-based regimen. This is based on an assessment of current
resources (changes to page 17).
