Calling all students or public health practitioners, currently studying for your Masters or Honours degree, or in the final year of your Bachelor’s degree, in the fields of health sciences, medicine or public health…

Would you like the opportunity to publish a research paper dealing with public health issues in a respected, widely-read and accredited peer-reviewed journal?

Submit your full manuscript to the South African Health Review (SAHR) to apply for the 2018 Emerging Public Health Practitioner Award (EPHPA)<http://www.hst.org.za/publications/Pages/2018-Emerging-Public-Health-Practitioner-Award.aspx>.

The successful candidate will have their paper published in the 2018 edition of the SAHR. The winner will also receive a cash prize and the option to explore opportunities that could further their research.

In particular, papers that address any of the following topics are sought:

•         Human resources for health (e.g. community health workers, production and distribution of healthcare workers, planning and forecasting, task-shifting, etc.).

•         Responses to the prevention and management of non-communicable diseases.

•         Progress and challenges towards implementing universal health coverage.

The South African Health Review (SAHR) is an accredited peer reviewed publication which is widely respected as an authoritative source of research, analysis and reflection on health systems.  Offering a South African perspective on prevailing local and international public health issues, the aims of the Review are to advance the sharing of knowledge, to feature critical commentary on policy implementation, and to offer empirical understandings for improving South Africa’s health system.


•  The Emerging Public Health Practitioner Award is offered to South African citizens or permanent residents who are under the age of 35 on 3 August 2018.

•  The applicant must be the SOLE author of the paper. Any other contributions may only be recognised as acknowledgements.

•  The manuscript must not exceed 5000 words.

To apply, please submit your complete chapter along with a copy of your South African ID and the entry form (attached) to sahr at hst.org.za<mailto:sahr at hst.org.za> by 3 August 2018.
